With help from Mitchell's Scaffolding North West, a brand new outdoor arts venue has been built in Manchester. The temporary venue, named 'Homeground', will provide 'an outdoor summer destination for people looking for a fun and safe night out as the lockdown rules start to ease in the UK'.
Homeground is built on a massive scale: its 80,000 square foot development site is three times the size of Manchester's famous Albert Square. The Venue is located next to HOME MCR, the arts establishment responsible for spearheading the project. A wide range of events and activities are planned, including cinema, music, theatre, comedy and cabaret as well as plenty of food and drink.
Homeground centres on the Auto Trader Show Ground, which is a socially-distanced performance space that can seat up to 400 audience members. The first two shows to appear on the new stage (new productions of A Midsummer Night's Dream and Alice in Wonderland) are both presented by Filter Theatre Company.
The venue also incorporates the Bruntwood Stage, which will play host to a number of free events including DJ club nights and the Manchester Folk Music Takeover. Other partners scheduled to show new work at the venue include Contact Theatre, Trans Creative and the Frog & Bucket Comedy Club. A number of food and drink stallholders will be providing refreshments, including the Tibetan Kitchen, Black Market Espresso and Wolf to the Door Cocktails.
The Homeground project will create no less than 450 much-needed employment opportunities for creative practitioners and freelance artists. These opportunities are extremely important for the creative economy of Manchester, which has been hit particularly hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mitchell's Scaffolding Blackburn were extremely proud to be involved in making the Homeground project become a reality. Our team designed and implemented a range of scaffolding and access solutions over an intense period of five days, all the while ensuring that health and safety guidelines were rigidly adhered to.
